Luckiamute Valley Pheasants is here, to some degree, because of our desire to keep the land in the family ownership despite the current trend toward larger and larger farming operations. Smaller farms such as ours are simply not competitive in a market where volume is king, and the pressure to sell is great.
It is a bit interesting to note that we could not have brought you this hunting experience without the waiver of Oregon’s restrictive land use laws provided by Measure 37. Much of our farm land was designated as high-value, even though it never has and probably never will produce “high-value” crops. For that we are grateful to the measure’s sponsor, Oregonians in Action.
